Frequently Asked Questions

What is Placenta Encapsulation?

Placenta Encapsulation is when the placenta is dehydrated and put into capsules to provide an all natural postpartum supplement.

Is there any evidence behind this?

There is! For more information on evidence, I invite you check out PlacentaBenefits!

What Are The Benefits

Of Placenta Encapsulation?

It is believed that consuming the placenta can:

  • Help to balance your hormones

  • Increase your energy levels

  • Increase milk production

  • Replenish depleted iron levels

  • Assist the uterus to return to its pre-pregnancy state

  • Reduce post-natal bleeding

  • Make for a happier, more enjoyable post-natal period

Do you offer different methods of encapsulation?

[COVID-19 PRACTICES UPDATE: DUE TO LIMITED PPE SUPPLIES AND INCREASED PRICES, WE ARE CURRENTLY ONLY OFFERING THE RAW METHOD, UNLESS MEDICALLY INDICATED FOR STEAMING. REQUIREMENTS FOR STEAMING INCLUDE UNTREATED/INADEQUATELY TREATED GBS AND MECONIUM PRESENT PRIOR TO BIRTH. IF YOU PREFER A GENTLER DOSE, AND DO NOT QUALIFY FOR STEAMING, YOU MAY CHOOSE A SMALLER CAPSULE SIZE FOR SMALLER DOSING OR LOWERING YOUR DOSAGE]

There are two methods of processing that I offer, Gentle (aka Traditional Chinese Medicine method), and Potent (aka "Raw" method)

The Gentle method follows Eastern medicine which believes that postpartum woman should not be exposed to cold energies because it can inhibit healing. It is believed that the placenta carries a cold energy, so when you steam it warm energy is introduced to it and is better for promoting healing. After steaming the placenta, it is then dehydrated and encapsulated. This method produces less capsules that are more gentle, which makes them a great option for those sentive to caffeine or those who's anxiety is triggered by stimulants.

The Potent method follows the belief that cooking breaks down nutrients. For example, a microwave breaks down nutrients more than boiling does, and boiling breaks down nutrients more than steaming does, and raw is the most pure version of our food's nutrients. With this method the placenta is not steamed and immediately dehydrated then encapsulated. This method creates more capsules that can have a much more potent effect on women and are a great option for those looking for more energy or have a history of depression.

What Method Should I Choose?

This is a very personal decision to make. Some women who are very sensitive to caffeine or have high levels of anxiety may find that the raw method preparation is too potent for them and that TCM isn't as much of a jolt. Those who suffer from depression easily may find that the Raw method is preferable to balance out hormones. TCM method does typically lower capsule count and some women may want more capsules and just lower their dose. All women should research these methods, assess their personal needs and make a decision on what would be best based on those needs.

Do You Add Anything In?

Some encapsulators add in herbal remedies to the capsules and I do not follow this practice. You receive only 100% pure placenta in your capsules. Many postpartum women become allergic to things they were not allergic to before, have postpartum health issues that previously didn't exist, or have different needs than they anticipated. Adding herbal remedies could mean that you end up unable to use your capsules. If interested in herbal remedies, you should seek support of a trained herbalist.

How Much Does Placenta Encapsulation Cost?

$50 is considered a non-refundable retainer fee. This guarantees my on-call time and supplies. $250 service fee for the encapsulation itself. Should your placenta be determined to not be a safe candidate for encapsulation, the $250 service fee is returned.
